Our Coaching U LIVE 2019 speaker videos feature some of the BEST coaches in basketball. These are a great way for you and your staff to increase and further your learning before the upcoming season.

Steve Clifford is one of the most respected coaches in the NBA and easily one of the BEST teachers in the GAME! Close your eyes and think about the best teacher you have ever had at any level… That’s Steve Clifford. The “Flash Game” can fit into any offensive philosophy or system you currently run. Ettore MEssina: defending the screening game off the ball

Ettore Messina is a future Hall of Famer and without question one of the 5 best coaches in the world today. Ettore is an extraordinary teacher of the game and a fabulous in-game coach. Truly a master of adjustments, Ettore is one of a few coaches that I know who can do an entire clinic on defending screens. Basically, the way Golden State plays. Ettore taught everything on how to defend pin downs; wing-post splits and his Q&A session is like another clinic in itself. As always, Ettore Messina is must-see!

Ryan Saunders: Becoming a Head Coach, Building a Culture, Defining Roles & Developing a System

Ryan Saunders is the youngest Head Coach in the NBA, but he is mature beyond his years. Ryan’s got a great coaching pedigree, his leadership style and teaching ability is off the charts! In this session, he taught a “Family of Plays” from Chin, Open and Hawk sets with Counters, and then expanded by teaching Shot Values and Concepts. Ryan is a great young coach that the coaches in attendance and our staff were excited to learn from!

Ganon Baker is the premiere player development coach in the world! Ganon has taught the game to players in over 47 countries and 5 continents. The techniques and drills that he teaches the players in this video are innovative, fresh and completely new ideas. These are the same skill development techniques that he uses with NBA players like LeBron James and Kobe Bryant. Ganon is an excellent teacher of the game and this video is a must watch!

Roy Rana: how to prepare a team in a short time

Sacramento Kings Assistant Coach Roy Rana is a dynamic teacher who brought incredible content in his first visit as a speaker at Coaching U. Roy relates his experiences coaching the Canadian National Team as well as coaching the “World Team” at the Nike Hoops Summit each year with the time challenges involved with each in preparing a team. Roy is a coaching star who enjoyed tremendous success at the University level while coaching Ryerson in Canada, he will do GREAT things as he begins his journey in the NBA with the Kings!

Will Weaver: switching

Before recently taking over as the Head Coach of the Sydney Kings of the NBL, Will Weaver was one of the brightest young assistant coaches in the NBA. Will has been on the coaching staff’s of the San Antonio Spurs, Philadelphia 76ers and the New Jersey Nets where he worked with brilliant coaches on a daily basis. Will is also an assistant coach for the Australian Boomers (Australia’s Senior Men’s National Team) as well as the Head Coach of the Long Island Nets of the NBA’s G-League. Will Voigt: Studying the International game to become a better coach

As a young Head Coach who has coached both the Nigerian and Angolan National Teams you must have a high level of competency and credibility. Will Voigt has both and has led his teams to success while coaching at the highest level of international competition and the 2016 Olympics. Will took time out of preparing his Angolan team for the 2019 FIBA World Cup to come share some of his coaching philosophies and techniques with you. Will hardy: Preparation & how to guard actions

Will Hardy is an Assistant Coach with the San Antonio Spurs who I’ve personally watched for years, he is an excellent teacher with great presence, poise, voice and demeanor. David Vanterpool: Building habits with your players

David Vanterpool is a rising star and will be an NBA Head Coach in the near future! David just left the Portland Trailblazers after 7 seasons to join Ryan Saunders with the Minnesota Timberwolves as Associate Head Coach and Defensive Coordinator. David’s presentation showed an outstanding 3-on-3 close-out drill, he also teaches a “random transition” 5-on-5 drill. These are excellent for you and your team. David’s presentation stressed the importance of developing relationships with your players. John Lucas of the Houston Rockets is the Master Player Development Coach in the NBA! This legend and friend of 40 years tells the truth about coaching, the role and responsibilities of a coach in one of the most honest talks ever directed by a coach. Chris Oliver: How to add Decision Making to any basketball drill

Chris Oliver is a rising star in the coaching profession! The University of Windsor Head Coach has a unique ability to make you think as a coach which I find brilliant! I love the way he teaches players to make decisions and encourages you as a coach to incorporate decision making in ways you would have never thought possible. This unique style and ability to communicate is uncanny. The drills he uses aer the BEST I’ve seen on the subject in the last 25 years. Brendan Suhr: Crunch Time & After Timeout Plays

One of the most critical parts of a basketball game are the last 4 minutes, better know as CRUNCH TIME. In this video, Brendan breaks down several sets in great detail and shows you how to set-up and attack the defense throughout the game by disguising plays for use ONLY during Crunch Time. Introducing the “trigger” concept of getting 2 defenders on the ball. Angles of screens are so important along with the speed of the screener. Brendan Suhr: NBA Offensive Ideas To Apply To Your Team

My philosophy when I speak at our Coaching U clinics is to “Make U Think!” I gave 15 Sets/Plays that feature how to get your BEST player shots. You must also have a package of “Crunch time” plays that you ONLY use late in games. These plays are taken from MY own playbook, plus other NBA and FIBA teams.

Bob has also coached in China, 8 years in the G-League, and is the winningest coach in G-League history, but his greatest accomplishment is that he’s had more players called up to the NBA than any other coach, helping those players achieve their DREAM! This dynamic RISING STAR in his first year as the head coach of the Memphis Grizzlies led his team to a playoff appearance vs the San Antonio Spurs. Fizdale comes from an incredible background of working with Erik Spoelstra of the Miami Heat, with 4 Consecutive NBA Finals Appearances and 2 NBA Championships. Jeff Bzedlik: Building a Defensive Foundation: from Transition to Pick & Roll

Jeff Bzdelik and defensive excellence are often used in the same sentence. Jeff brings over 30 years of coaching experience to the Houston Rockets. The former collegiate head coach of Wake Forest, Colorado, Air Force, UMBC and longtime NBA assistant coach has recently become a defensive guru in the NBA for his work with the Memphis Grizzlies the Houston Rockets. At our clinic, he built a foundation of the defense the Rockets used from transition defense back to half court, focusing on defending the various angles pick & rolls. He shows one of the best defensive drills I have ever seen that makes your defensive shell work more efficient because it combines so many different teaching points into one drill.

Brendan Suhr: Defensive Schemes to Stop Top Scorers

In our 45 minute Early Bus presentation to start day 2 off, Brendan addressed the problem of how to stop a top scorer on the opposing team. Some of the ideas he showed were how to trap out of a 2-3 zone the top scorer whether he was the ball handler or a wing shooter. He also showed the “Baylor Zone” and its slides before moving on and showing the “Jordan Rules” that were used to defend Michael Jordan out of Man-to-Man defense but also showed how you can use the 3-2 zone to effectively trap the top scorer. He also showed a 2-2-1 three quarter court press but will only trap the best scorer when he touched the ball. Give your team and kids a chance to win by showing that you have a defense to stop the other team’s best player. Make someone else beat you at either the middle, high school, college or pro level!
