I was at the Top 100 Camp at the University of Virginia this past week running my Coaching Program for the NBPA. We have 20 NBA players who are learning how to coach for the time their career ends. Aside from running Coaching U, it’s one of the most powerful, rewarding, intense, educational and fun things I do.
These were my takeaways of the week:
– Relationships with your players is key
– Creditability/knowledge is vital
– Ability to teach with simplicity
– Have a strategic mindset
– LOVE your Players
– Be eager to keep learning
As I’m preparing for our 2 Coaching U LIVE events in Orlando and Las Vegas I keep asking MYSELF, Who do I want to hear? and What do I want to learn?!?
As I continue on My Mastery of Coaching Journey I want to learn more about the mental side of coaching. Player/Skill development at every level has gone through the roof. I want to help Rising Stars in our profession…assistant coaches, D-League Championship coaches, NBA LEAD Assistants; who are 12 inches or 2 T’s from being a Head Coach.
My only regret is you will hear a minimum of 11 presentations per event over 2 days, get to ask questions, rub shoulders and network with our Coaching U LIVE Faculty. I wish it didn’t end and that it would go longer, why?
Because I won’t be finished LEARNING!
Then I’ll get my videos from both events plus Ft. Worth and watch them ALL to see what I missed the first time.
Kevin Eastman and I are both doing NEW talks which I know you’ll enjoy seeing and hearing.
In Orlando, Lake Highland Prep on July 5-6 is a week before college coaches start recruiting, so you need to be there to step your game up to catch or surpass your competition. July 10-11 in Vegas is still before you can recruit.
Lastly, I really encourage you to get our VIP package. Courtside seating with table to write your notes on, dinner on the first night and lunch on Day 2; snacks and water throughout clinic.
Crazy, but we want you to learn and get better. We hope to see you in either Orlando or Vegas in July!
